You have some life goals and work hard to achieve them for several years. And now you change your mind about them.
They don’t resonate with you anymore. You don’t feel that’s what you need in life.
Dropping goals after putting in lots of effort is a mental challenge.
Discouraging thoughts start rising. The inner voice calling you a “quitter”.
As for me question is “What’s on your mind now?”
New season of life
One option is stepping into new season of life. This shapes your thoughts about life in a different way and changes your priorities in life.
That’s absolutely fine. You choose a different destination and route for your life journey.
Moreover throughout the life most people have several of such turning points. Our energy and time are not limitless. So sticking to decisions taken years ago makes no sense when they don’t resonate with you anymore.
Life vision in early 40’s is very different from the one in early 20’s. And life vision in the 70’s differs from the one in 40’s. That’s normal.
Whether your new view at life leads you to simpler life with less ambitious goals or to life full of challenging goals shouldn’t matter. Important thing is that you have a vision and a path.
Drifting
Another option is giving up on the goals and defaulting to the life of drifting.
I hope that’s not where you fall in.
Yes, drifting means living relaxed life. There is no need to work hard, no need to step out of comfort zone. Such life is full of cheap dopamine.
Maybe it even feels like living full life in present moment. But it’s not.
Drifting is never a good option. Years will pass by quickly and you’ll find yourself in the middle of nowhere and full of regrets. And regrets is a worst poison killing people from inside.
Changing how dream life looks for you and adjusting your goals is completely fine. Goals are there to help us live intentional and fulfilled life. So when life changes goals may change as well.
