A Simple View on Goals Areas

In a balanced life a person has reasonable separation between work, rest, and play. Obviously work occupies big part of our lives because it pays the bills. Actually it tends to have bigger and bigger chunk of the life over time. Oftentimes this means we neglect rest and play. But it shouldn’t be like that.

Having goals in these three areas, you can create a well-rounded lifestyle that allows you to excel in your work, take care of yourself, and find joy and fulfilment outside of work. It helps to maintain a healthy work-life balance and to have overall happiness and satisfaction.

Let’s take a look at each area:

  • Work is about anything related to work and money. These are things you want to get done in your work or business, milestones you want to achieve, etc. They are “cold” goals I would say. Meaning they are analytical stuff and you probably wouldn’t have them if you wouldn’t need money.
  • Rest is about quieting your heart and mind. Basically those include health, fitness, relations, sleep, recharge, energy, etc. I suppose most goals here would be to build a habit and carry on this habit along the life. This area is essential part of the lifestyle. These are the things you would like to do everyday. They fulfil your physical and mental well-being.
  • Play is about adventures and fun. These are things you want to do (or have) just for fun. They can be inspiring actions like travelling, attending an even, seeing a friend or relatives, etc. Or they can be materialistic stuff like a watch, a cool backpack, extra equipment for your hobby, etc.

I suppose that when you look at your current goals you may see a disproportion priority for work goals. I’m sure you have a plenty of ideas in bucket list for rest and play. Questions are: Do they end up as active goals and Do you make them happen?
