It all starts with setting goals and having an ambition to achieve them. Originally everyone is fired up with motivation. Unfortunately as time passes by, motivation gets lower and lower. That’s when consistency goes upfront.
I see consistent work as a basis for success. Great results come from persistence. Motivation comes and goes. We cannot control it. At the same time one does control the fact of doing. It’s a binary decision taken every day: Did I complete task moving my goal forward or not? If I want result I must take the task and do it. Every day. Consistently.
Consistency leads several core benefits. To me these are:
- Have a foundation of long-term achievements. Achieving something great takes time and effort. A skill to put in the work consistently is the most basic block for long-term achievements. No matter what is the goal, the path will be step by step, task by task.
- Have systems that work. To be consistent one must have a system. For example, my goal achieving and task management system was clumsy. Over time it evolved. It is much better now than it was few years ago. So when I have new goal I already have a system to attack it.
- Have better habits. Doing something consistently day after day inevitably leads to a new habit. Since many goals are process-oriented they result in building new habits. Those habits are intentional and beneficial for my life.
- Achieve more goals. Working on goals regularly turns on compound interest: the more I complete the more I want to act, the more I act the more I can achieve.
- Be proud of yourself. Active work, growth, adopting new positive habits, and achieving goals makes any person happy and proud.
There are more benefits. I just believe these are the most important ones.
