How to Deal with High & Low Energy Tasks

We’re not always full of energy. Gladly not every task on our plate needs high energy. There are plenty of tasks which fit nicely for low energy state of mind.

What is important is to clearly see which tasks do not require high energy and do them in low focus state. Main benefit of such approach is pretty obvious: in high energy state we won’t need to bother about such tasks, because we know we have a better time to handle them. So while “in the zone” we can mentally concentrate on proper tasks requiring high energy.

Here are few tips to simplify your relationships with high and low priority tasks:

  • Clearly see which are high energy tasks and which are not. It’s enough to mark only high energy tasks. Leave all other tasks as low energy by default. We have just a few high energy tasks, while we have lots of low energy tasks. Keep the system simple.
  • Prioritise your time for high energy tasks. In other words schedule a time when you can be “in the zone” and during it work only on high energy tasks.
  • Allocate time for low energy tasks. This can be time of the day when you’re not physically and emotionally as energized, when you expect interruptions, or just short blocks of time between larger high focus work. This way you won’t worry about them during your peak concentration hours.

I encourage you to review your tasks and day schedule to tackle your tasks based on the energy level they require.
